APEX Shipping and Energy has introduced a new series of 75,000 DWT LR1 Panamax oil/chemical tankers with global routes capability, engineered to deliver high operational efficiency through advanced hull design, optimised onboard systems and strict compliance with current international regulations.

The vessels incorporate an S-Bow hull form, designed to reduce added wave resistance and improve seakeeping performance. This is complemented by a high-efficiency propeller and fan-type duct arrangement, enhancing propulsive and hydrodynamic efficiency and delivering excellent fuel economy. At a service speed of 14.5 knots, the design achieves a well-balanced operational profile in terms of performance, transport efficiency, and operating costs, while offering a cargo tank capacity approximately 10% higher than that of comparable vessels.

The propulsion and power generation systems are configured to meet IMO Tier III emission standards by installing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) units on both main and auxiliary engines to control NOx emissions. In addition, exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) are deployed to control SOx emissions, thus ensuring compliance with Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA) requirements. The vessels are also designed in accordance with EEDI Phase 3, reflecting enhanced energy-efficiency performance.

High-efficiency Framo cargo handling systems are installed, delivering a maximum loading rate of approximately 5,400 m3/h and a discharge rate of 4,500 m3/h when operating six cargo pumps simultaneously. The system is arranged with six pairs of cargo tanks, supported by two slop and one residual tank, enabling the safe and flexible transportation of crude oil, refined petroleum products and Category 3 chemicals. The tanks are coated with phenolic epoxy thermosetting paint, providing increased resistance to corrosion and chemical degradation, while delivering outstanding structural stability. The integration of an Inert Gas Generator (IGG) system ensures the inerting of cargo tanks, while closed-gauging systems and high-level alarms enhance operational safety.

The overall system architecture, including optimised piping arrangements and automation systems, is designed to improve cargo-handling efficiency, reduce turnaround times and facilitate maintenance procedures. APEX’s new series of 75,000 DWT LR1 vessels represents a technically advanced and compliant solution for modern oil and chemical transportation in global shipping.
